Opening New Horizons for Cyprus’ Wood and Furniture Sector through TTR Centre’s First Erasmus+ Mobility Project

The first Erasmus+ mobility project of TTR Centre was successfully completed, marking a significant milestone both for the training centre and for Cyprus’ Wood and Furniture Sector. The project, entitled “Enhancing and Upgrading Skills in Carpentry and Furniture Manufacturing: Vocational Training and Innovation through Erasmus+” (Project No.: 2026-1-CY01-KA122-VET-000442938), was specifically designed for professionals in the sector in Cyprus and created new opportunities for learning, networking, and professional development.
During the training visit to Greece, participants had the opportunity to receive hands-on training in the specialised laboratories of the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design of the University of Thessaly. They also engaged with modern industry enterprises, visited production facilities, and exchanged experiences, knowledge, and best practices with academics and professionals from the sector.
The discussions and professional connections developed throughout the mobility highlighted both the challenges and the growth opportunities facing the industry, demonstrating how innovation, quality, and continuous professional development can drive the sector’s future advancement.

Beyond the substantial learning outcomes, the mobility project made a significant contribution to networking and fostering a culture of collaboration among participants. Professionals from across Cyprus, including Paphos, Limassol, Nicosia, Larnaca, Pyla, Deryneia, Paralimni and Sotira, had the opportunity to connect more closely, exchange views and experiences, and lay the foundations for future partnerships.
The mobility not only strengthened participants’ technical knowledge and professional skills but also brought together members of the sector from different regions of the island, creating a valuable platform for dialogue, cooperation and the sharing of expertise.
A decisive contribution to the success of the project was made by the University of Thessaly, and in particular by Dr Georgios Ntalos, to whom TTR Centre extends its sincere appreciation for the knowledge, scientific guidance, and continuous support provided throughout the programme.
Special thanks are also extended to the companies that welcomed the participants, offering valuable opportunities for practical learning, knowledge exchange and professional development.
Particular recognition should be given to the extensive preparation that preceded the implementation of the project. The project proposal received an exceptionally high evaluation score, reflecting both the quality of its design and the relevance of its objectives. This achievement highlights the strong commitment and strategic planning invested in developing an initiative capable of delivering meaningful benefits to the sector.
Furthermore, the effective coordination of the mobility and the overall organisation of the mission ensured the smooth implementation of all activities, enabling participants to maximise the learning, professional, and networking opportunities offered throughout the programme.
TTR Centre extends its sincere appreciation to the Foundation for the Management of European Lifelong Learning Programmes (IDEP) for its valued support, as well as to the European Union for funding the project through the Erasmus+ Programme.
At the same time, TTR Centre warmly thanks all participants whose enthusiasm, collaboration, and active engagement played a crucial role in creating a unique learning and networking experience for the entire Wood and Furniture Sector. Their commitment and willingness to share knowledge and experiences significantly contributed to the overall success and impact of the mobility project.
The completion of this first mobility project is only the beginning. The experiences, knowledge, and professional connections gained are expected to be transferred to the participants’ businesses and workplaces, creating added value for the entire sector.
TTR Centre remains committed to developing new initiatives and learning opportunities that will further strengthen the skills, competitiveness, innovation capacity, and collaboration of professionals within Cyprus’ Wood and Furniture Sector.
Through continued investment in vocational education, international cooperation, and the exchange of best practices, TTR Centre aims to support the sustainable development and long-term growth of the sector, while helping professionals adapt to emerging challenges and opportunities in an increasingly dynamic market environment.
